17-week check-up

This past week we had our follow-up OB appointment.  The good news is that our doc was MUCH nicer.  The office was a lot less busy and he seemed to make an extra effort to sit and talk with us.  The bad news is that our insurance isn’t going to cover a midwife so we’re going to have to go the Western medicine route and stick with our obstetrician.  I think Georgia and I were both disappointed because we’ve heard so many great things about the midwife experience and it never really occurred to us that it would be something that isn’t covered through our plan.  Looking on the bright side, we still feel very blessed to have insurance (because there are many moms-to-be that don’t) and as it turns out, our doctor isn’t a total jerk after all… what a huge relief!

We were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat at the appointment and our doc said that everything sounded great!  It had been 6 weeks since we last heard our little bean so it was so wonderful to hear the sound of that little heart beating away!  Before leaving we scheduled the most important appointment ever – the ultrasound where we will hopefully learn the sex of the baby AND they were able to get us in on my 30th birthday!  Talk about getting the best birthday present ever!!  My mom and G’s ma and pop are going to join us for the appointment and I can hardly wait.  Only 9 days until we know if we’re going to have a baby girl or baby boy! Ekkkk!

Things are going super fast and are just so exciting right now!  Georgia is feeling much better, we have some important appointments in the next couple of days, my 30th birthday fest is next weekend and our Denver trip is right around the corner!

Life is good :)

How your baby’s growing: 17 Weeks

Your baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord – her lifeline to the placenta is growing stronger and thicker.  Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she’s around 5 inches long from head to bottom.  She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.
